Joel Ofori Bonsu, widely known as OlivetheBoy in the Ghanaian music scene, recently shared an  aspect of his relationship with his father, who happens to be a pastor in the Presbyterian church. Despite their differing paths in spirituality and music, OlivetheBoy disclosed that his father not only backs his musical endeavors but genuinely admires his songs.

During an exclusive chat with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, OlivetheBoy shed light on his family background, emphasizing their strong principles and discipline. His mother, a teacher, and his father, a man devoted to his faith, instilled values that initially clashed with his decision to pursue a career in music instead of following his father’s pastoral footsteps.

Facing resistance from his family due to their religious beliefs, OlivetheBoy recounted the initial disapproval he encountered when he ventured into the music industry. Despite his passion for music, which caused tension within his family, he persevered, even at the risk of parental disapproval.

OlivetheBoy reminisced about the challenges he faced, recalling moments when his mother questioned his priorities, expressing concern over his choice to record music instead of focusing on his studies. The prevailing notion that pursuing music without completing formal education was frowned upon added to the familial pressure he endured.

    The change over

However, as OlivetheBoy’s music gained popularity and recognition, a notable shift occurred within his family dynamics. His father, in particular, developed a newfound appreciation for his son’s musical talents, with his breakout track ‘Goodsin’ becoming a personal favorite.

Similarly, OlivetheBoy’s mother gradually softened her stance as she witnessed her son’s dedication and proficiency in the music industry. Her support culminated in attending one of his concerts, where she enthusiastically joined him on stage, symbolizing her endorsement of his chosen path.

Presently, OlivetheBoy acknowledges his parents’ support, albeit with certain restrictions on his lifestyle choices and boundaries to adhere to.
