For Ghanaian singer-songwriter Lawrence Mensah—known professionally as Muzic Mensah—his evolution from gospel music to secular highlife represents a deliberate expansion of his artistic expression.
Mensah began his public music career in 2004 within Ghana’s gospel sector. For a decade, spanning 2004 to 2014, he recorded and performed church-focused compositions.
However, in subsequent media interviews discussing his departure from the genre, Mensah cited structural challenges, including a lack of sustained financial and promotional support within local church music circuits, as key factors behind his eventual hiatus.
Re-emerging in 2021 under the stage name Muzic Mensah, he shifted his focus toward contemporary highlife and Afrobeats. His secular releases under Triple M Records—including singles such as “Obi Besú” (2023), “Lady in Red” (2024), and “All Correct” (2026)—blend traditional West African highlife guitar arrangements with modern Afro-pop production.
Now dividing his time between Ghana and the United States, Mensah maintains that his secular catalogue continues to convey positive themes of resilience, self-assurance, and personal progress.
