Nigerian musician Joseph Akinfenwaa Donus, widely known as Joeboy, has opened up about the inspiration behind his popular song “Better.” In a recent interview with well-known media personality Vivz, Joeboy explained that the song was written to highlight the issue of domestic violence against women.
He pointed out that in African societies, women often face mistreatment. So he wanted to use his music to address and bring awareness to this serious problem.
During the interview, Vivz expressed her admiration for the song, saying, “‘Better‘ is my favorite song ever. In that song, it’s like you’re speaking up for a woman that has been treated badly by another man.” Joeboy responded by agreeing, noting that domestic abuse is a frequent issue in African societies, where women are sometimes not treated with the respect they deserve. He felt it was important to use his music to shed light on these injustices.
