J.Derobie gained widespread recognition in 2019 following the release of “Poverty,” a recording that introduced his distinctive vocal delivery to audiences in Ghana and beyond.

The song emerged through the Empawa Africa initiative associated with Nigerian musician Mr Eazi, providing an important platform for the young Ghanaian singer.

Following that breakthrough, J.Derobie continued developing his catalogue with recordings including “Irie,” “Nungua Diaries,” “Back It” and “Riches.”

His music draws from reggae and dancehall traditions while incorporating contemporary African influences, giving him an identity that appeals to listeners interested in both Ghanaian and Caribbean-inspired sounds.

Through “This Is J.Derobie,” DJ Lord OTB turns attention towards that musical development rather than concentrating exclusively on one popular recording.

The Essential Mix series has previously celebrated several Ghanaian performers, including Shatta Wale, Kweku Smoke, Adina Thembi, Mr Drew, Wendy Shay, AratheJay and Fameye.

Each edition provides an opportunity for listeners to revisit familiar songs while discovering recordings they may have overlooked.

The J.Derobie instalment continues this approach, offering a dedicated collection for reggae and dancehall enthusiasts.

For listeners discovering J.Derobie for the first time, the mixtape can serve as an introduction to his musical background. Existing supporters can also enjoy another presentation of songs associated with his career.

The release further demonstrates DJ Lord OTB’s interest in documenting Ghanaian music through carefully selected mixes, giving different artistes opportunities to reach audiences beyond their regular followers.

Whether enjoyed through headphones, during a journey or at a gathering, the collection provides another listening option for fans of Ghanaian dancehall.
