Asake, born Ahmed Ololade, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter from Lagos. His stage name comes from his mother’s name. Before becoming widely known as a musician, he developed his performance skills through dancing and theatre. He studied Performing Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University, where he gained experience in acting, dancing and stage performance.
His music career began gaining attention with songs such as “Lady” and “Mr Money.” His major breakthrough came in 2022 after Nigerian rapper and music executive Olamide signed him to YBNL Nation. He released the Ololade EP, which included “Omo Ope” featuring Olamide and “Sungba.” The success of these songs introduced his energetic sound to a wider African audience.
Asake released his debut album, Mr. Money With The Vibe, in September 2022. The project included songs such as “Peace Be Unto You,” “Terminator” and the remix of “Sungba” featuring Burna Boy. It recorded the biggest opening day for an African album on Apple Music at the time and entered the Billboard 200 at number 66.
He followed it with Work of Art in 2023, which produced popular songs such as “Amapiano,” “2:30” and “Lonely at the Top.” His third album, Lungu Boy, arrived in 2024 and featured Wizkid, Travis Scott, Stormzy, Central Cee and Ludmilla. The album showed a broader side of his music while maintaining his mix of Yoruba vocals, fuji rhythms and amapiano production.
In 2025, Asake began releasing music through his independent label, Giran Republic, starting with “Why Love.” He continued this new phase with further releases and issued his fourth studio album, M$NEY, in 2026. His rise from dancer and theatre student to international recording artist has made him one of the leading figures in modern Nigerian music.
