Ghanaian-American singer Amaarae has released a new song titled “Sad, U Broke My Heart.”
The track gives listeners another look at Amaarae’s distinct sound, which often moves between Afropop, alternative R&B, pop and electronic music. Her soft but unusual vocal style sits at the centre of the song, helping it stand apart from more familiar Afrobeats releases.
With a title that speaks directly about disappointment in love, “Sad, U Broke My Heart” appears to deal with the aftermath of a relationship that did not go as planned. Amaarae keeps the feeling personal, using her voice and melody to carry the mood of the record.
Amaarae has continued to build an audience across Ghana, the United States and other parts of the world through music that does not follow one fixed sound. Her songs often take risks with production and vocal delivery, which has helped her stand out among her peers.
