Ghanaian singer and songwriter King Promise continued his impressive rise in the music industry with the release of “Abena,” a romantic highlife-inspired record produced by KillBeatz. The song was officially released on 3 August 2018 as the second single ahead of his highly anticipated debut album.
On “Abena,” King Promise sings about deep affection for a woman who has completely captured his heart. His smooth vocals and heartfelt lyrics express the emotions of a man willing to do whatever it takes to win the love of the woman he desires. The record blends modern Afrobeats with traditional Ghanaian highlife elements, creating a sound that is both refreshing and easy to enjoy.

Production duties were handled by KillBeatz, one of Ghana’s most celebrated producers and the founder of Legacy Life Entertainment, the record label to which King Promise was signed. KillBeatz crafted a warm instrumental filled with soothing guitars, rhythmic percussion and catchy melodies that perfectly complement King Promise’s vocal performance.
Upon its release, “Abena” received positive reviews from music lovers and quickly became one of King Promise’s biggest songs at the time. The single further established him as one of Ghana’s leading Afrobeats and highlife acts, while building anticipation for his debut album. It was later included on his 2019 debut album, As Promised, where it remains one of the fan favourites.
The song’s official music video, directed by Gabriella Kingsley, also attracted widespread attention and helped increase the record’s popularity across television stations and digital platforms.
