Gyakie – I’m Not Taken

Gyakie, the gifted Ghanaian singer-songwriter known for her Afro-fusion sound, has released a new single titled “I’m Not Taken.” The track appears on her debut full-length album After Midnight, which arrived on August 29, 2025, after years of preparation.

She created most of After Midnight during late-night studio sessions. According to her, working after midnight gave her the freedom to explore emotions more deeply. In an interview with Music In Africa, she explained that many songs came to life during those quiet hours, making the project intimate and honest.

“I’m Not Taken” blends Afrobeat rhythms, R&B smoothness, and highlife melodies. The track highlights Gyakie’s ability to connect Ghanaian heritage with modern sounds. She wrote about 90 percent of the album’s songs, often beginning with freestyle sessions over a beat until the right feeling emerged.

The album features soulful collaborations with 6LACK, Headie One, Shatta Wale, Young Jonn, and Omar Sterling. Each guest artist contributes unique energy, making the project diverse yet cohesive.

To introduce the project, Gyakie released an album trailer directed by Alex Piper. The visuals mix Ghanaian cultural elements—such as Adowa dance and heritage symbols—with cinematic storytelling. She revealed that finalizing the track list was one of the toughest career decisions she has faced.

Her rise started in 2019 with Love Is Pretty and later the Seed EP. Songs like Forever and My Diary carried her across Africa and beyond. Today, she boasts nearly 200 million Spotify streams, stepping confidently into a new era with After Midnight.
